Beijing, Jun. 17(Antaike)-China's NPI output increased 1% m-o-m to 36.7kt (kt in metal) in May of 2021, decreasing 17.2% on a y-o-y basis. In a breakdown by varieties, the output of high grade and low grade NPI hit 29.5kt and 7.2kt, with an m-o-m rise of 1.7% and a m-o-m drop of 2%, respectively. The decrease in high grade NPI output is mainly due to production reduction of Shandong Xinhai Technology Co., Ltd. The high grade NPI production saw a significant growth was owing to higher profit of 200 series stainless steel in May. The output of low grade NPI fell down, because some of 200 series stainless steel mills switched to produce carbon steel. According to the production schedule of steel mills, the production of high grade NPI will continue to maintain a growing trend in June.
From Jan. to May of 2021, China's NPI output decreased 9.6% y-o-y to 189kt.
